Barbara S. Schlichtman is an attorney with the Maine Center for Elder Law, LLC, in Kennebunk, Maine. She helps clients in southern Maine with long-term care planning, estate planning and special needs planning.  She works with special needs trusts, a tool to protect government benefits; probate matters; estate administration; MaineCare (Medicaid); and Medicare Set Aside trusts.  

Attorney Schlichtman works closely with families to navigate paying for long-term care and to find the best place for their loved one.  Focusing on quality of life is important to her practice. She assists clients whether they want to pre-plan or whether they are in a crisis.  In her special needs planning work, she strives to ensure that every step has been taken to care for your loved one.  She develops collaborative relationships with her clients, as well as their financial advisors or other professionals.  Her work also includes Medicare Set Aside trusts in the case of personal injury awards.

Barbara is a on the executive committee for Legals Services for the Elderly in Maine, a member of the Elder Law Section of the Maine State Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and ElderCounsel, LLC, a national organization of attorneys specializing on elder law issues. 

Barbara earned her Bachelor’s of Journalism degree (1989) and J.D. (1992) from the University of Missouri.
