In addition, Stuart is the president of Stuart Flaum Consulting LLC, a benefits advisory firm for people with disabilities and their families. Stuart is a New York State Housing Navigator and is trained as a Social Security Work Incentives Planning and Benefits Practitioner.

Stuart was appointed by the Governor of NY in 2013, and continues to serve on the New York State Developmental Disabilities Council, a government agency that addresses the needs of people with developmental disabilities. Stuart has served on various boards, including  treasurer Parent to Parent of New York State, secretary National Autism Association Metro NY and on the Advisory Committee Devereux Glenholme School in Washington, Connecticut.

Stuart holds a BA from Hobart College and received a Chartered Special Needs Consultant from the American College. Stuart is a member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners.

Stuart lives in Brooklyn with his wife Candia, a real estate broker who has dedicated part of her practice to housing strategies for special needs families in NYC. 

Stuart personally knows the intense, high pressure, constant special needs planning required for lifetime care. Special Needs Family Planning’s mission is to successfully address those life care needs. Stuart’s son requires complex supports and services through OPWDD and Medicaid. Stuart’s son has embraced self direction and is very proud to live in his own apartment.
